German art-book publisher Taschen is lining up a giant archival reprint of Marvel’s earliest Star Wars comics. Star Wars Comics Library Vol. 1 1977–1979 collects the first 23 issues of Marvel’s Star Wars series — including the film adaptation — in a 680-page hardcover measuring about 11 inches by 15.6 inches, ICv2 reports.

U.S. specialty retailers are pointing to an October 3, 2026 street, with an MSRP around $200 (discounted pre-order prices vary by shop). The ISBN commonly listed is 9783754405796.

Creators and remaster

Stories in the run come from writers including Roy Thomas and Archie Goodwin, with art by Howard Chaykin, Carmine Infantino, and other classic Marvel contributors across the 23-issue span. ICv2 notes that Chaykin landed the adaptation after George Lucas spotted his work in the groundlevel comic Star Reach, and that Marvel’s first issue sold over a million copies in its original run.

Art has been digitally remastered to clean up imperfect period printing while keeping the feel of those late-1970s pages. Comic historian Peter Sanderson contributes an in-depth history essay alongside the reprinted material.

Collecting context

ICv2 briefly nods to Taschen’s separate line of compact ~700-page Marvel omnibi at a much lower ~$25 MSRP as the opposite end of the size-and-price spectrum. This Library volume is the XXL archival play — museum-scale presentation of the comics that kept Star Wars adventures flowing between the original film and The Empire Strikes Back.
