Kotaku’s Moises Taveras published a hands-on preview of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve ahead of its October 2, 2026 launch, highlighting immersive campaign dogfights and studio talk about expanded multiplayer ambitions.

Street and platforms

Bandai Namco dates the game for October 2 worldwide, with Deluxe Edition early access on September 29, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, per the publisher’s June launch announcement. Brand director Kazutoki Kono and producer Manabu Shimomoto appear in Kotaku’s report.

Campaign immersion

Taveras describes cloud banks, cockpit-first sorties, and a long-form early campaign that Shimomoto frames as a conscious accessibility push — including briefing-led loadout choices before a “first real” mission with air-to-surface naval targets. Developers also referenced a first-person hub area where players interface more directly with characters and environments.

Multiplayer ambitions (dev talk)

Kotaku relays studio ambitions for what it calls the team’s most ambitious multiplayer effort yet: roughly 100-player lobbies, co-op missions, seasonal content on a roughly two-month cadence, and a battle pass. Bandai Namco has separately introduced a Premium Ace Pass for seasonal rewards.
