Sony Japan’s PS5 Pro Sign-Up Requires 60+ Hours of PS5/PS4 Playtime, With a Lottery if Oversubscribed

PlayStationA sleek white game console with black stripes glows on a pedestal in a rainy neon Tokyo street as hands holding lottery tickets reach toward it under a holographic hourglass that has filled to full.

Want a PS5 Pro from Sony’s own store in Japan? You’ll need to prove you actually play. Sony Interactive Entertainment opened purchase applications for the PlayStation 5 Pro on Sony Store, Sony’s direct retail shop in Japan, on Monday, September 28, Japan time. Only accounts with at least 60 hours of PS5 or PS4 playtime can apply. If applications outnumber the consoles Sony plans to sell, buyers will be picked by lottery.

The details come from SIE’s announcement, which Famitsu published in full Monday morning in Japan, which was Sunday night in the U.S.

The deadline in Central time

Applications close at 11:59 PM JST on Wednesday, October 7. Japan is 14 hours ahead of Central time, so that’s 9:59 AM CT on Wednesday, October 7. The day is the same in both places, but the window shuts Wednesday morning in the U.S., not Wednesday night.

  • Applications opened: Monday, September 28, Japan time (Sunday, September 27, in Central time)
  • Applications close: 11:59 PM JST Wednesday, October 7 (9:59 AM CT Wednesday, October 7)
  • Results: sent out in waves starting around Monday, October 26, Japan time. Sony gave no hour, so depending on when the first notices go out, that could still be Sunday, October 25, in Central time.
  • Delivery: early to mid November 2026

Who can enter

SIE says applicants must meet every one of these conditions:

  • Use PlayStation’s online services with a Sony account registered in Japan.
  • Have at least 60 hours of total gameplay on PS5, PS4 or both, while signed in to that same account, between Friday, September 27, 2024, and 11:59 PM JST on Sunday, September 27, 2026. That cutoff was 9:59 AM CT on Sunday, September 27.
  • Have that Sony account’s sign-in ID unified with a My Sony ID. Anyone who created a My Sony ID on or after January 19, 2022, is already unified. Older or missing IDs need to go through Sony Japan’s unification process first.
  • Agree to the terms on the application page.

The key detail is the timing. The qualifying window closed the day before applications opened, so there’s no way to grind out 60 hours now to qualify. In practice, that shuts out freshly made accounts and anyone who hasn’t been playing on PlayStation over the past two years.

Price and what’s in the box

The console is model CFI-7100B01, with a suggested retail price of ¥137,980 including tax. According to SIE’s listing, the box contains:

  • PlayStation 5 Pro with a 2TB SSD
  • DualSense wireless controller
  • Two feet for horizontal placement
  • HDMI cable, power cord and USB cable
  • Astro’s Playroom, preinstalled

SIE handles applications and tells winners the results. Sony Marketing then handles the purchase itself and shipping.

Japan only

This is a Japan-only program tied to Japan-registered Sony accounts and Sony’s Japanese store. The announcement doesn’t cover the U.S. or Europe, so it has no bearing on how American or European players buy a PS5 Pro.
