Mythic Achievements are live for Xbox Insiders starting today, September 29, according to an Xbox Wire post from Senior Product Manager Alex Charters and Principal Software Engineering Lead Eden Marie. You earn a Mythic by completing every original achievement for a game. Achievements added later through DLC or updates do not count toward Mythic status, and once you have it, Xbox says it is yours to keep.
Past completions already count. Xbox Wire says Mythic Achievements have been added to eligible games players finished earlier, including Xbox 360 titles, so some favorites may already show Mythic status the next time an Insider opens their profile.
How Mythics work
Only the original achievement set for a game is required. Later add-ons are tagged as “add-on” on the achievement list, so players can see what does and does not move the Mythic needle. A new progress bar sits at the top of each game’s achievement list and can focus on the original achievements still needed. Xbox says similar progress cues also show up in Guide and Achievement details.
Profiles gain a new Gaming tab for achievements, Gamerscore milestone badges, and completed games. Mythic titles get a heroic frame in achievement history. Friends’ Gaming tabs are visible too, so Insiders can see which games others have taken to Mythic.
Xbox Insider Hub is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC for anyone who wants early access to features like this. Xbox Wire frames Mythics as one of the platform’s most player-requested features and points Insiders to Player Voice and the Xbox Insider subreddit for feedback and support.
Xbox’s Platinum-style reward
The Verge’s Tom Warren compares Mythic Achievements to PlayStation Platinum trophies: unlock every original achievement for a game and you get the completion badge. Warren notes Mythics leaked in the Xbox PC app last week, complete with a unique unlock sound, and that the Insider test arrives weeks after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said a platinum-style reward was coming later this year.
Neither Xbox Wire nor The Verge names a broader public rollout date. For now, Mythic Achievements are an Insider early look — finish the original set, check the new Gaming tab, and see which of your old completions, including Xbox 360 games, already wear that heroic frame.
