DC Reveals Batman: Justice Year for Next Year

Comics

DC Comics officially revealed Batman: Justice Year, a new series from writer Joshua Williamson, artist Bruno Redondo, and colorist Adriano Lucas, at SDCC Málaga on October 2, 2026, according to Comics Beat. The book follows a younger Dark Knight during his first interactions with the Justice League and is dated to launch next year (2027) — exact month still TBA.

DC spent the week posting teaser images featuring Batman, Commissioner Gordon, and League members before the Málaga unveil. Williamson posted cover art afterward whose logo treatment evokes the iconic presentation of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Year One (Batman #404–407) — evocative branding, not a remake claim.

Creative notes from Beat: this is the first Williamson/Redondo collaboration and Redondo’s first major DC project since Superman Treasury 2025: Hero For All. Williamson continues on the ongoing Superman series and the recently launched Next Level Legion of Super-Heroes book.

Caveat for Direct Market desks: day-of coverage confirms the creative team, premise, and 2027 window but does not lock a solicit month or issue count. Expect more at New York Comic Con next week rather than inventing an on-sale date.

US Batman coverage on RCG already tracks Absolute Universe timing — including Absolute Batman Beyond Ark-M Special Hits Nov. 18 — a separate continuity. Justice Year is mainline/younger-Batman Justice League territory, not an Absolute Universe title.

Retailers and readers should watch NYCC panels next week for solicit art, issue structure, and whether Justice Year is an ongoing or limited series — none of that locked in the October 2 Beat report. Until then, the confirmed facts are the creative team, the younger-Batman/Justice League premise, and a 2027 launch window.

Williamson’s dual workload on Superman and Legion also means Justice Year will share bandwidth with flagship DC books already in monthly racks, a scheduling detail shops may want clarified when FOC arrives.

What we are not saying: we are not inventing a 2027 month, claiming Year One continuity reboot as fact, or tying this to Absolute Batman’s hiatus. Report Williamson/Redondo/Lucas; 2027 launch TBD; Málaga reveal Oct. 2.
