Amazing Spider-Man #1000 Tops Bleeding Cool’s Shop Index at About Five Times the Next Book

ComicsAmazing Spider-Man #1000 Tops Bleeding Cool’s Shop Index at About Five Times the Next Book

Amazing Spider-Man #1000 tops Bleeding Cool’s Wednesday-to-weekend shop index at 100.0, about five times the next book, Rich Johnston reported Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 7:57 a.m. CT. The $9.99 Marvel issue, written by Joe Kelly with art by Pepe Larraz, is the benchmark on a ComicHub index of in-store registers. Johnston writes that it stood at five times the next books on the list. Those figures are an index, not a tally of books purchased.

On the index, Amazing Venom #1 is second at 21.7, Alien vs. X-Men #1 third at 20.7, and DNX #2 fourth at 19.2. The table then lists Poison Ivy #48 at 15.4, X-Men #38 at 14.6, Absolute Batman #24 at 14.3, Fantastic Four #17 at 13.6, Uncanny X-Men #36 at 13.3, Zatanna #6 at 13.0, and Queen in Black #5 at 12.1. Each number is that title’s score against the week’s top reported book, set at 100.0.

Marvel takes eight of the eleven

Marvel holds eight of the eleven spots, the top four among them. DC has three: Poison Ivy, Zatanna, and Absolute Batman #24. Johnston identifies Absolute Batman #24 as last week’s book, not a new issue in this window. He also writes that next week he expects Marvel to hold only three of the top eleven.

What the shop index measures

Johnston says the list comes from ComicHub point-of-sale data at about 120 to 150 mid-range comic shops, covering Wednesday through Friday — the retailers he calls the “Wednesday Warriors.” He puts ComicHub’s wider footprint at roughly 1,800 to 2,000 direct-market shops, mostly in North America and the UK. The sample is not publisher orders and not the whole direct market. The 100.0 mark is simply the top book in that sample; every other title is scored as a percentage of it.

He notes Amazing Spider-Man #1000 had already reached some shops the previous weekend for Local Comic Shop Day, so part of its register activity predates this Wednesday.
