Dragon’s Dogma 2 Update 4.0 Adds Hard Mode on Oct. 9

PlayStation

Capcom is getting Dragon’s Dogma 2 ready for its expansion with a big free patch. Title Update 4.0 arrives on Thursday, October 9, the same day as the Dark Arisen expansion, and the full patch notes have been published ahead of time, as reported by RPG Site.

The headline addition is Hard Mode, for anyone who wants a tougher fight. The update also adds a way to carry over your current save data and start the game again from the beginning, similar to a New Game Plus, which should suit players heading back in for the expansion.

Pawns get a new specialization, Orienteer. Capcom is also making Forgotten Riftstones more rewarding, raising the Rift Crystals you get from interacting with one from 30 to 90. If you’ve already used some, the game will give you the difference the first time you load in after the update. Some armor also gains thermal properties, and the patch includes features needed to support Dark Arisen.

A long list of bug fixes is included, much of it aimed at pawns. Capcom says it fixed pawns sometimes fighting barehanded while holding a weapon, failing to climb or descend ladders, and lowering their priority for elemental enchantment skills. There’s also a fix for The Phantom Oxcart quest, where pawns could push you out of the cart, and for ‘Ware the Corrupted Beasts, which could become impossible to finish if you advanced it between 3 a.m. and dawn in-game.

The technical side gets attention too. On PlayStation 5 Pro, the game adds official support for Enhanced PSSR. On Steam, Capcom is adding FSR 3 Frame Generation, moving DLSS Super Resolution to version 4.5, supporting multi-frame generation with DLSS Frame Generation, letting DLSS Frame Generation work even when DLSS Super Resolution is off, and enabling DualSense adaptive triggers, vibration, and motion features, according to TechRaptor and RPG Site.

Dark Arisen launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 9, and on Switch 2 as a bundle with the base game. Capcom showed more from its fall lineup at the Tokyo Game Show, as covered in RCG’s roundup of the Capcom Spotlight at TGS 2026.
