Rockstar has started tuning in the airwaves of Leonida. On Thursday, October 8, the studio revealed six of the in-game radio stations for Grand Theft Auto VI and put audio previews of each one on the game’s official music page. Rockstar says GTA VI has the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts in the series, spanning everything from classic rock to talk radio.
Here are the first six stations and their hosts:
- Cocoteo FM: modern Latin music from El Martillo and La Gata, from bachata and merengue to dembow and reggaeton.
- Back Country Radio: renegade country from MW and Delta Dawne, with roving reporter Mud Dog Mike calling in from his airboat.
- AfroBank FM: Burna and Palmsy play African classics, amapiano, 3-step, and more.
- The Chamber 106.6: classic metal from the ’80s and beyond with DJ Kerry and DJ Tom.
- Flash FM: the Vice City pop institution returns, hosted by Robyn and Alex.
- Dirty South Classics: Trick and Trina spin regional rap and hip-hop classics.
The bigger change is how you’ll listen. Rockstar says GTA VI will have podcasts for the first time in the series. Talk radio in past games ran on a loop like every other station, but podcasts will be on demand. And for the first time, both radio and podcasts work on foot. Your character can wear headphones or earbuds connected to their phone, so you no longer have to sit in a car to hear the music, as VGC reports.
Flash FM’s return is a nod to longtime fans. The pop station was a fixture of 2002’s Vice City, and GTA VI returns to a modern version of that city and the wider state of Leonida. The music page also features six singles from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the 34-track soundtrack album Rockstar announced last month.
Rockstar has been slowly filling in details ahead of launch. Earlier this week, it explained how it is handling satire in the game, which RCG covered in GTA 6 skips direct political references, Rockstar says.
