Dave the Diver is ending its run of add-ons with a crossover fans have been asking for. Developer Mintrocket announced at the Triple-i Initiative showcase on Thursday, October 8, that the game’s final DLC is the Subnautica 2 Content Pack, a free expansion made with Unknown Worlds, the studio behind Subnautica 2. It is due in early 2027.
The setup is suitably strange. Having discovered every sea creature and sushi recipe in their own dimension, Dave and Bancho travel to a new one: Proteus, the ocean moon from Subnautica 2. There they will explore unfamiliar waters filled with new creatures and resources, unlock exotic recipes, help new friends, and deal with regular run-ins with Subnautica 2’s Leviathan, according to Eurogamer.
“For our final expansion, we wanted to create something that felt especially meaningful, and a Subnautica collaboration is what players have been asking us about for a long time,” said Mintrocket studio director Jaeho Hwang. “Both games are set underwater, but Subnautica has such a distinct approach to underwater exploration, so working with the Subnautica 2 team gave us a chance to bring a new wave to the Dave the Diver experience.”
Subnautica 2 creative director Anthony Gallegos was just as enthusiastic. “It’s clear that we both adore one another’s games a lot, and the expansion is a love letter to both Dave the Diver and the Subnautica universe,” he said. “People are in for a treat.”
Dave the Diver has crossed over with a long list of games over the years, including Balatro, Yakuza, Godzilla, and Guilty Gear. Subnautica 2 is a natural fit, even if its survival horror tone is a long way from Dave’s cozy sushi bar. Subnautica 2 launched in early access this year and has been a big hit.
The DLC is available to wishlist on Steam now. Dave the Diver is out on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, Switch 2, PC, iOS, and Android. The game’s success is a big reason it keeps getting new content, as RCG reported when Dave the Diver topped 10 million units sold.
