Yen Press Adds Fate/strange Fake and Kino’s Journey at NYCC

Yen Press used its industry panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 9, to announce 14 new licenses across light novels, manga and manhwa. The list includes a couple of titles fans have wanted in English for a long time.

The headliner is Fate/strange Fake, the Fate spinoff light novel series by Ryohgo Narita, the author of Baccano! and Durarara!! Yen Press is also bringing out a print edition of Kino’s Journey, Keiichi Sigsawa’s classic series about a traveler who never stays in one country for more than three days.

The other two new light novels are The Girls Adrift Among the Stars and Dungeon Master: Creating a Hot Spring Dungeon.

On the manga side, the announcements cover a wide range:

  • Spice and Wolf Diner: Gourmet Expansion, a cooking spinoff of Spice and Wolf.
  • After Midnight Skin, an explicit office BL series.
  • Lily: Lost and Found, a mature josei romance.
  • Steam-pipe Broom Racing, a steampunk sports manga set in London.
  • Ice-Core Meteoria, a fantasy series about mining.
  • Monstrosities and Me, about befriending yokai.
  • Mermaid Observation Diary, a single-volume monster manga.
  • A Peach Offering for the Imperial Court, a mythological romance drama set in an imperial court.

For longtime Yen Press readers, the Spice and Wolf spinoff may be the easiest sell. Isuna Hasekura’s series about the traveling merchant Lawrence and the wolf deity Holo has always been as much about food and trade as adventure, so a cooking series fits right in. The Beat has the full rundown from the panel.

Yen Press also had a few deals for fans at the show. Its webstore is taking 40% off titles tied to this fall’s anime season through the end of October. At its NYCC booth, the publisher is selling exclusive Solo Leveling shirts and hoodies and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint plushies.

Publishers keep finding new ways to bring Japanese and Korean titles to English readers, in print and online. RCG recently reported that GlobalComix added Kadokawa and Redice manga titles to its reading service.
