Kishimoto Is Drawing a New Manga, Naruto: Shadow Rising

Masashi Kishimoto is drawing Naruto again. The creator’s new manga is called Naruto: Shadow Rising, and its first teaser debuted at the “NARUTO: What’s Next?” panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday, Naruto Uzumaki’s birthday.

The official Naruto site calls the video a “super teaser,” and it is built from Kishimoto’s own storyboards. It does not give much away, but what it shows has fans talking:

  • The stone faces of the six past Hokage, with a seventh face still under construction
  • Naruto holding the Hokage hat
  • A smiling Kakashi, and Sasuke
  • Sakura looking at a baby
  • Naruto and Sasuke clashing

The title was confirmed by the official Naruto manga account and by IGN. There is no word yet on where or when the series will run. More details are coming at the “Naruto” Jump Super Stage at Jump Festa 2027, which takes place December 19 and 20, 2026, at Makuhari Messe in Japan.

A crossover anime with Ninku

The panel also announced NARUTO×NINKŪ, a four-episode anime crossover with Koji Kiriyama’s 1990s series Ninku. Kishimoto and Kiriyama are both supervising it, with Noriyuki Abe directing and Tetsuya Nishio as character designer and chief animation director. Kishimoto has long credited Ninku as an influence. “Without NINKŪ, NARUTO would not exist,” he said.

Both projects are part of a multi-year push for Naruto and Boruto. The same panel announced a worldwide release for the Naruto Mobile game and a June 2027 launch for the new Naruto Card Game.

Naruto ended its original run in 2014. A brand-new manga with the original cast at its center, built from Kishimoto’s own storyboards, is a big moment for longtime readers, and the teaser’s glimpses of a seventh Hokage face and Sakura with a baby already have fans guessing where the story fits.

NYCC has been a big weekend for manga news. RCG also covered how Yen Press added Fate/strange Fake and Kino’s Journey at the show.
