Game Freak is wrapping up the regular update cycle for Beast of Reincarnation, about two months after the action RPG launched in August. In a post on X on Oct. 16, the studio said the game’s “current post-launch update cycle is coming to a close.”
The next patch is currently planned for Oct. 19, though Game Freak says the final date has not been set, and it will be “the final patch in this ongoing phase of major post-launch updates.” The Japanese version of the post puts that release around Oct. 20 Japan time and notes the schedule could change. Game Freak did not say what the patch will contain.
The announcement stops short of ending support outright. “While frequent updates will be coming to an end, if you have any thoughts, feedback, or issues you’d like to share, please feel free to reach out to us or file a support ticket via the Fictions support website,” the post reads. Fictions is the game’s publisher. The game stays playable, and the studio asked players to keep it updated, noting that patches download automatically when the game launches on both physical and digital editions.
The post lists the current builds as version 01.012.000 on PlayStation 5 and 1.1.1.0 on Xbox Series X|S and Steam.
A rough first two months
Game Freak, the studio best known for Pokémon, gave no reason for winding down the update schedule. The new IP has had a difficult run since launch. GamesRadar+ reports that the game drew “Mixed” reviews from critics and players, and that its director publicly apologized, saying he was “truly sorry” the game hadn’t “provided a sufficiently enjoyable experience.” According to GamesRadar+, the studio promised fixes for complaints about combat and story pacing, and its updates addressed some of the biggest pain points from reviews.
Those patches haven’t moved the needle much on Steam. GamesRadar+ reports the game’s Steam reviews are still “Mixed” overall, with recent reviews sitting at “Mostly Positive.”
Beast of Reincarnation is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan and follows Emma, a Blightborn outcast who has lost her memories and emotions, and her canine companion Koo, a Blight Hound, according to Noisy Pixel. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
