Techland Ends New Content Plans for Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light: The Beast is done growing. Techland founder and CEO Paweł Marchewka told fans during a Discord AMA that the studio has no substantial new content planned for the standalone zombie game, according to Insider Gaming.

“Dying Light: The Beast is a complete game, and that’s how players should approach it, much like Dying Light 1 is today,” Marchewka said. “We’re not planning substantial new content for it.”

Why Techland is moving on

The Beast launched in September 2025. It started life as an expansion for Dying Light 2 before growing into a full standalone release. Marchewka said it was planned “as a complete, self-contained game from the start,” and that Techland never made a long-term support commitment, even though it kept adding content after release, including the free Restored Land mode.

He was frank about the bigger picture. “The five-year support model hasn’t worked as well for us as we hoped,” Marchewka said. “We’re an AAA studio. With each new game, we want to deliver an unforgettable experience and push the boundaries of what games can do.”

He also explained why long-term support is hard for a studio Techland’s size. “Supporting existing games for years with smaller teams can seriously disrupt work on new projects,” he said. “At the same time, players expect frequent, substantial, high-quality updates, sometimes several times a month, and usually for free. With limited resources, we can end up disrupting production and still disappointing players.”

Dying Light 2 is not going anywhere yet

Marchewka said Dying Light 2 support never ended, and that it has a significantly larger team on it than the original Dying Light had at the same point. Support will continue past the game’s fifth anniversary in February, though Techland has not decided how big that support will be.

IGN notes that Techland had already canceled the PS4 and Xbox One versions of The Beast earlier this year, and that its fantasy RPG project was canceled last year, so what the studio is making next is still unknown.

Techland is not the only studio drawing a line under post-launch plans this month. Game Freak recently said it is ending regular updates for Beast of Reincarnation about two months after launch. Dying Light: The Beast remains available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
