ComicsDC's Year of Wonder Opens With Louise Simonson's First Wonder Woman Run on January 20, 2027

DC marked Wonder Woman’s 85th anniversary on Wednesday by announcing Year of Wonder, a publishing initiative that hands the main Wonder Woman series to rotating creative teams throughout 2027. Tom King and Daniel Sampere wrap up their run on the title in December, and the new lineup takes over in January, Comics Beat reports.

The anniversary itself traces back to Diana’s first appearance in All-Star Comics #8 in 1941. Comics Beat compares the rotating approach to DC’s Superman Superstars initiative on Action Comics a few years back.

Louise Simonson goes first

Writer Louise Simonson and artist Cian Tormey open the year with a four-issue story starting in Wonder Woman #41 on January 20, 2027. According to Comics Beat, it is Simonson’s first time writing the Wonder Woman title. DC’s description has Diana determined to abolish the Amazon Safety Act so her sisters can return to the shores of Man’s World, while asking whether the Amazons are ready to come back or have given up on saving humanity from itself.

“I haven’t written many books with female leads, and they don’t come any more iconic than Diana,” Simonson said in DC’s announcement. “Teaming her up with Lois Lane, another iconic character, is a dream come true. Throw in Granny Goodness and her Female Furies? It doesn’t get more fun than that.”

She also called the gig “both intimidating and exciting,” noting that her arc is “sandwiched between the brilliant Tom King run and the work of the immensely talented, smart, and funny Stephanie Williams.”

Stephanie Williams and Nubia follow

After Simonson and Tormey, writer Stephanie Williams and artist Elena Casagrande take over for a six-issue arc that carries Year of Wonder through October 2027. Williams contributed four issues to the Wonder Woman series earlier this year and co-wrote Wonder Woman 2026 Annual: Wonder War, The Matriarch Special #1. Full story details will come closer to release, but she confirmed a long-planned team-up with Nubia.

“Plus, I finally get to work in the Nubia team-up I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time, but this time they won’t be going to Las Vegas,” Williams said.

DC says more stories and creators will be revealed as the year goes on.

Wonder Woman #41 details

The 32-page issue arrives in comic shops and digital retailers on January 20, 2027, for $4.99, with card stock variants at $5.99. Ryan Sook draws the main cover, with variants from Daniel Sampere, Walter Simonson and Cian Tormey, a foil variant by David Nakayama and a Sweater Weather variant by Alexander Lozano.

DC is also celebrating the anniversary with six free Wonder Woman comics on DC Universe Infinite in a Get to Know! Wonder Woman collection. In Burbank, Visit Burbank is giving five fans a commemorative Wonder Woman comic written by Amanda Deibert with art by Aaron Lopresti.

King and Sampere’s run builds to its finale in Wonder Woman #40 on December 16.
