Phantom Blade Zero is one week from launch, and S-GAME has a surprise for players who still like to own their games on a shelf. The studio’s new launch trailer ends with confirmation that physical editions are coming to PlayStation 5 in 2027.
According to Gematsu, the boxed release will come in three versions: a Standard Edition, a Deluxe Edition and an Ultimate Edition. Push Square reports that the Ultimate Edition includes a collectible steel case. S-GAME has not shared pricing or a specific date for the physical editions yet.
Digital launch is still October 29
Nothing changes for the main release. Phantom Blade Zero launches digitally on October 29 for PS5 and for PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Push Square lists the base game at $59.99, with the Deluxe Edition adding $10. The outlet also notes that the game has reportedly been listed at around 134GB on PS5, more than a standard Blu-ray can hold, so the eventual disc release may need two discs or an extra download. S-GAME has not addressed that.
What the game is
Phantom Blade Zero is a Wuxia action RPG built in Unreal Engine 5. You play as Soul, a warrior framed for his master’s death and left with only 66 days to live, who sets out to uncover the conspiracy behind it. S-GAME calls its blend of martial arts and machinery “Kungfupunk,” and says its fights draw on choreography from the golden age of Hong Kong action cinema. The game features more than 30 weapons and over 20 “Phantom Edges” to mix and match, and defeating powerful enemies can earn you their weapons and signature moves.
The physical news arrives at an interesting moment for discs on PlayStation, with Sony facing backlash over its move away from physical media. Even PlayStation creator Ken Kutaragi weighed in, calling that backlash a “mentality issue.” For fans who were waiting on a disc, S-GAME has now given them a reason to hold off until next year.
