Square Enix’s remake of Romancing SaGa 2 has reached a milestone the series has not seen in almost three decades. The publisher announced that Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven has passed one million units worldwide in combined shipments and digital sales.
That makes it the first SaGa game to cross one million since SaGa Frontier in 1997, according to the official SaGa account. To mark the moment, Square Enix shared new celebration artwork and a thank-you video for players.
A slow, steady climb
Revenge of the Seven is a full remake of the 1993 Super Famicom RPG, which never got an official English release in its original form. The remake rebuilt the game in 3D, modernized its turn-based combat and kept the series’ unusual structure, in which the story stretches across generations of emperors fighting the Seven Heroes.
As Gematsu notes, the game first launched for PS5, PS4, Switch and PC through Steam on October 24, 2024. It later came to Switch 2 on July 31, 2025, and to Xbox Series X|S on September 25, 2025. Those extra releases have clearly helped keep it selling, nearly two years after launch.
Romancing SaGa 3 is next
The milestone comes as Square Enix prepares the next remake. Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United is set to launch on February 16, 2027, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store.
The SaGa series has long been a cult favorite rather than a blockbuster, known for its freeform structure and tough, systems-heavy battles. A million-seller remake suggests there is a bigger audience for that style than many expected, and it gives Square Enix a strong lead-in for Romancing SaGa 3.
It has been a busy month for Square Enix’s RPG lineup, which also includes Final Fantasy VII Revelation letting players choose Hard Mode from the start.
