The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 is now the highest-rated game of 2026 on Metacritic, holding a Metascore of 96 from 86 critic reviews when RCG checked around 4:55 PM CT Wednesday.
That score moved the remake past Sektori, which had led Metacritic’s best games of 2026 list with a 93. Nintendo Life reports that Resident Evil 2: Deluxe Edition sits third, also at 93, followed by The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Remaster at 92 and Big Walk at 91.
The remake is also climbing the all-time chart. Nintendo Life placed it 27th on Metacritic’s all-time ranking, ahead of Skyrim, Half-Life, Tears of the Kingdom and The Wind Waker. The original 1998 Ocarina of Time still holds the top spot with a 99, the only game on the site to reach that mark. Because a long run of games on the list share a 96, the remake’s exact position can shift as more reviews arrive.
It is also the best-reviewed Switch 2 game on Metacritic so far, ahead of Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (95), Hades II (95) and Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (94).
As we covered when Nintendo detailed who built the project, the remake comes from Nintendo EPD. Its biggest test for the 2026 crown is close: Grand Theft Auto VI launches in about two weeks.
