GOG Showcase Reveals Wing Commander Restorations, Road Rash, Retrovibe Publishing and Galaxy for Linux

PC | MacGOG Showcase Reveals Wing Commander Restorations, Road Rash, Retrovibe Publishing and Galaxy for Linux

GOG held its first Showcase for its 18th anniversary, and the big storefront news is already live: seven Anniversary Editions are out now, including restored Wing Commander: Prophecy and Road Rash, while a rebuilt GOG Galaxy is headed to Linux in 2027, as GOG announced.

The Anniversary slate mixes GOG-led restoration work with updates led by Electronic Arts. GOG restored Wing Commander: Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition after EA hit technical roadblocks, and that title joins the GOG Preservation Program. EA led Anniversary Editions of Wing Commander and Wing Commander II (35th), plus Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger, Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom, and Privateer 2: The Darkening (30th). Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition rounds out the seven and is live DRM-free on GOG.

Every Anniversary release ships as a two-in-one pack with the updated build and the original Legacy build. The Legacy version is no longer sold on its own. Existing Wing Commander owners on GOG get the matching Anniversary Pack at no extra cost. As we covered when an EA producer first revealed the Wing Commander III Anniversary Edition, that project grew out of source-tape work in EA’s archive; today’s drop puts that family of updates on the store.

Preservation, publishing, and Galaxy

GOG also added Nox to the Preservation Program after community requests, and it says more than 300 classics have received over 1,700 under-the-hood fixes through that effort. On the new-games side, Retrovibe by GOG marks the storefront’s first publishing partnership, with a debut lineup led by Project Warlock: Lost Chapters. GOG Social closed beta signups are open as well, aimed at threaded game talk tied to store pages.

GOG Galaxy is getting a full rebuild. The client is being reworked on Windows and Mac to run simpler and faster, and GOG says Galaxy is officially heading to Linux. GamingOnLinux reports the Linux-supported release is planned for 2027, with no day or month locked. Galaxy remains optional: offline installers stay available so games can still be downloaded and kept without the client.
