Ezra Bridger’s trip home from the end of Ahsoka season one is getting its own comic. Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm have announced Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape From Thrawn, a five-issue miniseries built on a story by Dave Filoni, the show’s creator and Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer. StarWars.com revealed the series Wednesday morning ahead of New York Comic Con, and issue #1 arrives in comic shops on January 20, 2027, the same day Ahsoka season two premieres on Disney+.

Rodney Barnes writes the book from Filoni’s story, with interior art by Andrea Di Vito and a cover by Phil Noto on the first issue. Barnes is a familiar name on this corner of the galaxy: he wrote Marvel’s eight-issue comic adaptation of Ahsoka’s first season. The Beat points to Di Vito’s work on Thrawn: Alliances.

Filling the gap between seasons

The season one finale left Ezra stowing away aboard Grand Admiral Thrawn’s flagship, the Star Destroyer Chimaera, as it escaped Peridea. The next time viewers saw him, he was stepping off a stolen shuttle onto the New Republic’s Home One, disguised as one of Thrawn’s Night Troopers, to greet Hera Syndulla with “Hi Hera, I’m home.” Escape From Thrawn covers what happened in between.

The official synopsis calls it “the unseen story of Ezra Bridger’s daring flight from Peridea,” and lays out the threats he faces on the way: “Hunted across hyperspace with nowhere to hide, the rebel hero must now evade Captain Enoch, counter the dark magick of the Nightsisters, and outwit the Empire’s greatest strategist if he hopes to make it off the Chimaera alive.” It also bills the series as a companion to the show’s upcoming second season.

Release and NYCC panel

So far, Marvel and Lucasfilm have shown only Noto’s cover for issue #1. No cover price or variant covers have been announced yet. Lucasfilm Publishing’s “Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away…” panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 9, at 11 a.m. ET in Room 409 promises more on the series, and The Beat reports that more will be announced there.

It isn’t the only Marvel Star Wars book pointed at January 2027. RCG previously reported on a leaked Marvel solicitation listing Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles #1 for that month.
