505 Games parent Digital Bros has discontinued development on Armed Fantasia: To the End of the Wilderness, the Kickstarted spiritual successor to Wild Arms, along with Directorate Novitiate and a sequel to free-to-play title Battle Island, Gematsu reports from the company’s latest earnings disclosure. AUTOMATON WEST amplified the cancelation on September 25.
Why Digital Bros pulled the plug
In its statement, Digital Bros said it discontinued the titles “after multiple attempts to revise their gameplay,” following a review of each product’s potential amid changing market conditions and the additional investment needed to finish them. The group booked a €18.7 million non-cash asset impairment, including €17.6 million in write-offs on the discontinued projects and €1 million in other impairment losses tied to lower sales expectations.
Wild Arms pedigree and the Double Kickstarter
Armed Fantasia was announced in 2022 from Wild Bunch Productions, built around ex–Wild Arms talent including Akifumi Kaneko. It launched alongside Penny Blood (Shadow Hearts spiritual successor) in a joint “Double Kickstarter” that raised about ¥379,328,385 (~$2.4 million) from roughly 18,000 backers. A March 2026 Kickstarter update said the team had completed a vertical slice and submitted it to the publisher. Penny Blood remains a separate project; AUTOMATON notes it did not share Armed Fantasia’s 505 Games publishing arrangement.
Studio status still open
Digital Bros has discontinued Armed Fantasia on the publisher side. As of AUTOMATON’s report, Wild Bunch Productions has not confirmed whether it will seek new funding or permanently end the game. No refund policy details were included in the earnings statement.
