GamesIndustry.biz reports that achievements for unreleased and unannounced Steam games have been surfacing on aggregators such as Exophase and SteamDB. According to GameDiscoverCo founder Simon Carless, after Valve’s weekly maintenance window the company “unfortunately rolled out a major bug around achievements.” Carless said automated collectors are therefore pulling achievement data for every Steam game that has one, including titles that are unreleased or even unannounced. That line is Carless characterizing the incident for GI’s readers — not a Valve statement and not something this desk will reattribute to Valve.
Exophase owner Mike Bendel separately described the situation as a Valve error rather than a classical breach-style data leak: achievements that should stay private became reachable through the API and were scanned into aggregators. He also noted AppID-only placeholders when names were missing. GamesIndustry.biz says it has contacted Valve for further information; as of that report, no Valve statement had been published on the bug itself.
