Dark Horse teased it at San Diego Comic-Con, and now the details are out. On Friday, October 9, at New York Comic Con, Dark Horse Comics and Wizards of the Coast announced an ongoing Baldur’s Gate 3 comic series. It will give Larian’s companions their first comics appearances, starting with everyone’s favorite vampire spawn, Astarion.
The first six-issue arc follows Astarion after he escapes his old master, Cazador Szarr. According to Dark Horse, he is enjoying his freedom until “Waterdeep is rocked by a spree of gruesome ritual murders,” and he has to find the killer before he becomes the next victim. The arc is written by Alyssa Wong (Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, Deadpool), penciled by Vincenzo Carratù, inked by Elisabetta D’Amico, colored by Valentina Taddeo and lettered by Buddy Beaudoin.
Next comes a much longer story. Issues #7 through #18 follow Karlach into the Nine Hells, written by Becky Cloonan (Somna) and drawn by Francesco Scimonelli (Dick Tracy). Dark Horse says later arcs will center on Wyll, Shadowheart, Gale and Lae’zel, with other characters from the game showing up along the way.
Baldur’s Gate III #1 hits comic shops on February 24, 2027, for $4.99, and it is available to preorder now. There are five covers: art by Gerald Parel, Scott Fischer, Angela Wu and Tyler Walpole, plus a blank “character creation” cover. Readers can get a first look in Dungeons & Dragons #2 on January 6.
That D&D series is part of a bigger slate. Dark Horse’s new main Dungeons & Dragons ongoing launches on November 4. The publisher is also reviving the Dark Sun setting with a trilogy of hardcover graphic novels. As The Beat reports, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun Vol. 1 is a 56-page book by writer Dan Abnett and artist Nil Vendrell (The Witcher), with colors by Mattia Iacono and a cover by Jeff Stokely, and it arrives on April 20. It follows Tikat, a thri-kreen gladiator who volunteers to protect a friend targeted by a powerful psionic enemy, then has to fight his way out of the city of Tyr with a party that includes a cannibal named Kavora.
