DC Sets Starfire, Swamp Thing and Superboy-Prime for 2027

Comics

DC laid out a big chunk of its 2027 slate at New York Comic Con. The publisher’s Next Level panel on Saturday, moderated by Marie Javins, brought a new Starfire series, a Swamp Thing book and a special for one of DC’s most infamous characters, plus fresh looks at Vixen, Static and more.

Starfire

Alyssa Wong and Belén Ortega are teaming up for a new Starfire series that launches in April 2027. The panel pitched it as “Red Sonja meets One Piece,” and Starfire’s sister, Blackfire, is part of the story, according to The Beat.

Swamp Thing: Hallowed Ground

Steve Foxe and Riccardo Federici are behind Swamp Thing: Hallowed Ground, coming in 2027.

Superboy-Prime Special #1

Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora are reuniting for Superboy-Prime Special #1, a one-shot due in January 2027. Prime is “going home” in the story, which follows the pair’s “Prime Time” arc in Superman. Williamson confirmed the January date on X after the panel, and Bleeding Cool has more on the special.

Vixen and Static

Stephanie Williams and Khary Randolph shared more on their Vixen series. The book is set in Detroit, introduces a new villain in its first issue and gives Mari a love interest from the Bat-Family. Covers come from W. Scott Forbes, David Nakayama and Jock. Cody Ziglar also talked about his Static series, saying he read the Dakota Universe bible to prepare. In this take, Dakota has more metahumans than any other city, according to AIPT.

More from the panel

  • The Legion of Super-Heroes adds Timber Wolf and Kid Quantum.
  • Matt Fraction’s Batman #15 teases the “assassination” of Bruce Wayne, and Matches Malone is involved.
  • Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez’s Batman: Shadow of the Bat, announced earlier this year, got another look.

Batman: Justice Year by Joshua Williamson also came up. RCG covered that book when DC revealed Batman: Justice Year earlier this month.

Taken together, the panel shows DC filling 2027 with character-focused books that sit alongside its bigger events. Starfire and Vixen in particular are getting solo spotlights with strong creative teams behind them, and Superboy-Prime gets his own showcase right at the start of the year.
