Dungeons & Dragons Goes Star Wars in 2027 With Core Rules and Tyro Squadron: Adventures

The Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars crossover has its first books. At the Disney and Lucasfilm publishing panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 9, Wizards of the Coast revealed D&D | Star Wars Core Rules and D&D | Star Wars, Tyro Squadron: Adventures. Both are due in 2027.

In the announcement published by GamingTrend, Wizards said the two books are “warping into the galaxy in 2027.” It gave no exact release dates, prices or formats for either one.

A secret Rebel crew in the Original Trilogy

Tyro Squadron: Adventures is the campaign book. Wizards describes it this way: “take the fight to the Empire as part of a secret Rebel crew. Set during the Original Trilogy, these new stories unfold as Luke and Leia fight their own battles across the galaxy. Fly daring missions, explore new corners of the galaxy, and help shape the Rebellion’s story—your way.”

That means the heroes of the films stay in the background while the players’ crew runs its own missions. The cover shown at the panel features armed characters, stormtroopers, a droid and Darth Vader, Collider reports. StarWars.com says Wizards also showed a first look at concept art for what it calls Star Wars: Season of Rebellion. That is the name Wizards gave the 2027 collaboration when it first announced it at Gen Con in July.

The rules are still under wraps

Core Rules is the book that will lay out how Star Wars play works at the D&D table, but Wizards isn’t saying much about it yet. “Additional details about D&D | Star Wars, Core Rules will be revealed later,” the company said. GeekWire reports the book is designed for players of fifth-edition D&D. Wizards’ own statement doesn’t name an edition, and Polygon notes the company hasn’t said how blasters and lightsabers will work under D&D’s rules.

The next stop is Star Wars Celebration in April 2027, where Wizards promises “a star fighter encounter.” It hasn’t described what that will involve.

D&D’s second Universes Beyond crossover

The Star Wars books are part of D&D Universes Beyond, the crossover line Wizards introduced at Gen Con. The first entry, D&D: World of Warcraft, has its wide release on November 17, 2026, according to D&D Beyond. Star Wars was the surprise reveal that closed the Gen Con keynote, with Wizards saying only that it would arrive in 2027. Friday’s panel is the first time the company has named the actual books.
