The Epic Games Store’s next free-games batch is live, headlined by System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, according to Video Games Chronicle (October 2, 2026). Players can claim the Nightdive remaster alongside mystery adventure Buried Stars for free through Thursday, October 8. From October 8 through October 15, the free slots rotate to horror puzzle adventure Out of Sight and medieval city-builder puzzle game TerraScape.
As with Epic’s standard promotions, titles claimed during each window stay in the library afterward. System Shock 2’s remaster is the clear US-audience draw: Nightdive’s update modernizes the 1999 FPS/RPG with updated presentation, widescreen support, cross-play co-op, and related quality-of-life work called out in coverage.
Buried Stars (Line Games) is pitched as a survival-audition mystery where trapped contestants communicate through social media while awaiting rescue. Out of Sight follows Sophie, a blind girl escaping a haunted mansion. TerraScape asks players to place buildings across floating islands. Those synopses are publisher/store framing — not review scores.
For PC desks already tracking multiplat launches this week on RCG — including Minecraft Dungeons II Is Live on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5, Switch and Switch 2 — Epic’s free windows are a separate claim-to-keep beat, not a Steam sale clone.
US players should note the hard cutovers: miss October 8 and the System Shock 2 / Buried Stars pair leaves the free lane; miss October 15 and Out of Sight / TerraScape follow. Epic account required; this note does not invent Steam, GOG, or console giveaways.
Nightdive’s remaster pitch in coverage stresses modern presentation and co-op convenience for a classic that many younger PC players only know by reputation — a practical free-library add during a busy October multiplat calendar.
What we are not saying: we are not claiming the remaster is permanently free after the window, inventing console ports in this promotion, or grading the four games. Report the two Epic claim windows and the four titles VGC listed.
