Faraway Launches Nov. 5 on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC

One of the longest-brewing indie games around finally has a launch date. Faraway arrives on November 5 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer Steph Thirion announced. The console versions are brand new; until now, Faraway had only been announced for PC.

What Faraway is

Faraway is a minimalist arcade puzzle game about a shooting star that draws constellations to stay alive. You connect stars to harvest their energy, which stretches out your short life and builds your score. The rules are simple, but Annapurna says the game is “easy to approach but demanding to master,” with advanced techniques that let you take risks for extra energy and points.

Every run starts from nothing in a universe generated in real time around how well you are playing. As you improve, you travel faster, climb the leaderboards and reach tougher regions of space. Alongside the endless core mode, Faraway includes 16 handcrafted puzzle stages built to make you rethink its mechanics and pick up new techniques.

A one-person project, more than a decade in the making

Faraway was made single-handedly over more than a decade by Steph Thirion, a game designer, creative coder and musician best known for the cult game Eliss. Its visuals are generated entirely in real time, and Annapurna pitches it as an audiovisual experience built for discovery, replay and long-term mastery. Annapurna’s description gives the star its own mission statement: “I am a shooting star! A spark meant to shine and vanish in a blink. But I will travel!”

You can wishlist Faraway now on Steam. The Steam page does not list a price yet. The November 5 date puts it in a crowded month, but its small, focused design should make it an easy pick-up between bigger releases. It is also another indie game making the jump to consoles this fall, following Peak’s console launch this week.

If you like score-chasing arcade games but want something calmer and more abstract to look at, the new release date trailer above is worth a watch.
