Polygons overnight Tokyo Game Show hands-on (published ~1:58 AM EDT / ~12:58 AM CT, September 18) frames Bandai Namco’s Gundam Rogue Orbit as a flashy, approachable mech slash-’em-up — more melee panache than a punishing Soulslike — ahead of a locked street on March 5, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). That date was already announced by Bandai Namco America on September 3; the overnight beat is playable feel, not a new calendar drop.

What Polygon played

Players pilot the Gundam Helix as ace RE-X, joined by Haro companion Vii, against invasive alien Apocalypse creatures in a new Gundam timeline that doesn’t require decades of franchise lore. In the TGS build, three assemblies were available:

  • Assault Sword — lock-on Anchor skill attaching Helix to enemies
  • Whip Sword — close-range sword plus extended whip reach
  • Sword Lance — thrust-focused mid-range pressure

Each build has its own Tactical Skills and AP Units (two AP-U equipped at a time); Over-Rise powers up attacks and auto-evades briefly, and burning it as AP Unit Burst delivers a screen-filling ultimate. Polygon notes temporary overheat from boosting/shooting, but found combat forgiving and often a little button-mashy — Armored Core / Monster Hunter / Devil May Cry comparisons fit in spots, without Armored Core 6’s immediate difficulty. Full customization depth was limited to pre-built assemblies in the demo.

Date and editions (already announced)

Bandai Namco America’s Sep 3 release locks March 5, 2027 and lists preorder tiers — Standard, Launch, Deluxe, and Collector’s (Collector’s includes HG 1/144 ARK-10 Gundam Helix Earth Blue model kit among other physical/digital extras). Specific MSRP figures are not invented here; check Bandai Namco / storefronts for live prices.

As-of: 2026-09-18 morning ~9:00 AM CT (America/Chicago). TGS hands-on from Polygon; March 5, 2027 multiplat + edition ladder from Bandai Namco America (Sep 3). Overnight beat is hands-on, not a new date.
