Marvel Reprints Hickman’s Secret Wars as Facsimile Editions

Comics

One of Marvel’s biggest modern events is coming back to comic shops in its original form. Marvel will republish Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic’s 2015 Secret Wars as a run of Facsimile Editions, starting in January 2027, according to solicitation details shared by 13th Dimension.

Secret Wars #1 Facsimile Edition goes on sale Wednesday, January 20, 2027, for $6.99. The 56-page issue carries an Alex Ross cover and is rated T+. Like Marvel’s other facsimile reprints, it re-presents the issue exactly as it first appeared, ads and all. The remaining issues will follow monthly, with the nine-issue series wrapping up in September.

The end of everything

Secret Wars was the culmination of years of Hickman’s work on Avengers and New Avengers. Marvel’s solicitation sums up the setup: “A series of Incursions has destroyed the Multiverse, leaving only two Earths. Now, the final Incursion is here. The 616 Universe will collide with the Ultimate Universe, and heroes on each side will strive to save their world. But neither will survive. When everything ends, what will be left? Only Doom!”

The timing is not subtle. Hickman’s Secret Wars has been a major influence on the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars films, and Marvel is clearly setting up new readers to find the source material before they hit theaters. As 13th Dimension notes, it is also a rare lengthy Facsimile Edition run for a Modern Age series, rather than a classic from decades ago.

Spider-Punk returns, too

Secret Wars is not the only reprint on the way. Bleeding Cool reports that Marvel will also release The Amazing Spider-Man #10 Facsimile Edition on January 13. The 2014 issue by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel is part of the original Spider-Verse event and features the first appearance of Spider-Punk. It runs 32 pages for $4.99.

For collectors, facsimiles are a cheap way to own a key issue in its original format. Original copies of Secret Wars #1 still command real money, so a $6.99 reprint is a far easier way in. Special reissues have been a theme across publishers lately, from facsimiles to high-end runs like the 47-copy letterpress edition of The Killing Joke. Marvel is expected to publish its full January 2027 solicitations later this week.
