Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has its first year of DLC mapped out. Arc System Works and PlayStation Studios used the end of the game’s first Evo France tournament on Sunday to reveal the rest of the Year 1 Characters & Stage Pass, and it is a strong lineup: Jane Foster’s Thor, Venom and Jubilee.
They join Phoenix Cyclops, who was already announced as the pass’s first fighter. Here is how the rest of the year breaks down, according to Push Square and the official Marvel Tōkon account:
- Venom and the Klyntar stage (the symbiotes’ home planet): Spring 2027
- Jubilee: Summer 2027
- Thor (Jane Foster): Winter 2027
Thor got the spotlight in the new trailer even though she is the last fighter in the pass. Her version of the character follows Jane Foster’s run with Mjolnir from the comics, and she is getting a special theme from guest composer Keiichi Okabe, best known for his work on the NieR series. Arc System Works also teamed up with artist Peach Momoko on teaser art for the upcoming fighters.
The reveal came right after the game crowned its first Evo champion. GosuGamers reports that Zando won the Marvel Tōkon bracket in Nice, and Evo’s official Top 8 lists YMST_P4U in second place.
A full year of fighters
Marvel Tōkon comes from Arc System Works, the studio behind Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ, and it is out now on PlayStation 5 and PC. A steady DLC plan matters for any new fighting game, and this one gives players a mix of a fan-favorite villain, a cult-favorite X-Men pick and a big-name hero. Venom also brings a new stage with him, which is a nice bonus for a pass that is mostly about characters.
The game’s world is spreading beyond the screen, too. Marvel is telling more of its story in comics, and RCG talked to the writers of Marvel Tōkon: First Strike #1 about the lore behind Fighting Souls.
Arc System Works has not shared full move lists for the new fighters yet, so expect more gameplay closer to each release window.
