2K is sounding the final buzzer on NBA 2K25. According to the publisher’s NBA 2K25 Server Sunset support notice, the 2024 edition will no longer be available for purchase as of Friday, October 30, 2026, and the game will be discontinued as of Thursday, December 31, 2026.
The bigger hit lands on January 1, 2027. From that date, 2K says players will no longer be able to play multiplayer games or access any online modes. MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available, and it will no longer be possible to earn Virtual Currency (VC). Online Leagues and community sharing go dark along with the servers.
What survives is the offline core. 2K says Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA remain playable, minus any feature that needs a connection to 2K servers. Anyone who already owns NBA 2K25 can still redownload it after the October 30 delisting and keep playing those offline modes.
The detail fans are reacting to is MyCAREER. It is a story-driven single-player mode, but because player progression runs through VC, the mode goes away when the servers do, as Video Games Chronicle pointed out in its October 5 report. Nintendo Life adds that the Switch version, which never had MyNBA, The W, or MyWNBA, will be left with only Play Now offline.
2K’s support page was first published on September 3 and updated on October 2. The story moved into the wider news cycle on Monday, October 5, Annual sports games usually follow this pattern. The difference is how much of 2K25 is tied to online currency, which makes this shutdown cut deeper than a typical “online features end” notice.
Live-service shutdowns that leave only part of a game playable have been a steady beat this fall. RCG recently covered SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada ending online service and becoming an offline PvE game, another case where server support decides what owners keep.
Two dates to remember: October 30 is the last day to buy NBA 2K25 digitally. December 31 is the last day for MyCAREER, MyTEAM, online play, and VC. Owners keep offline modes such as Play Now and MyNBA after the servers go dark.
