Independent comics distributor Philbo Distribution is rewriting its retailer pitch for 2027. In a package of changes summarized by Graphic Policy, the company promised a printed catalog, simpler discounts, limited returns and a much shorter ordering window.
Starting Jan. 1, 2027, Philbo will publish a printed catalog meant to help shops discover upcoming indie releases and plan inventory without living entirely inside email blasts and PDF lists. For a direct market still reshuffling after Diamond’s collapse, a physical catalog is an old tool being pulled back out for a fragmented wholesale world.
The discount structure is blunt on purpose. Every order gets a 50% retailer discount, whether a shop buys one comic or a stack, with no minimums and no tier math. Philbo is pairing that with a limited, no-questions-asked return window: two comics back on orders up to $100, four on orders from $101 to $250, and six on orders of $251 or more, within 30 days and excluding shipping.
Final Order Cutoff is also moving from 60 days out to 30. That gives retailers more time to gauge demand before they lock quantities and gives small publishers a longer runway to build awareness before the FOC hammer drops.
The pitch lands in a market still cleaning up after Diamond’s bankruptcy fight over warehouse stock, including the court deal that freed consignments for Dark Horse, Oni, Titan and Vault. Mid-size and indie distributors are racing to look easier to buy from than the old monopoly ever was.
Whether Philbo’s catalog-and-returns combo moves needle numbers will show up in 2027 reorder patterns. On paper, it is one of the clearer retailer-friendly packages an indie distributor has floated since the Diamond scramble began. Shops that have been nervous about gambling drawer space on unfamiliar indie titles now at least get a catalog to browse, a flat margin to count on, and a short leash on unsold copies before the next FOC cycle hits.
