Sony Interactive Entertainment refreshed its PS5 audio lineup with two new wireless headsets: PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge.
In a September 15, 2026 PlayStation Blog post by Joe Bentley (VP, Engineering, SIE), both models center on custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers — with larger planar drivers than prior Pulse Elite for fuller bass while keeping the clean detail players liked. PlayStation Link brings lossless, ultra-low-latency audio and seamless switching across supported devices (PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac), with simultaneous connection to supported Bluetooth devices. Both ship in White and Midnight Black, with rotating earcups that lay flat, built-in volume control, and AI-enhanced noise rejection on their mics.
Pulse vs Pulse Edge (official comparison)
Per the Blog’s feature table (prefer this over secondary roundups):
- PlayStation Pulse — 4 magnets per planar driver; integrated mic with AI noise rejection; PlayStation Link USB-C adapter included.
- Pulse Edge — 8 magnets per planar driver; hidden/detachable boom mic with AI noise rejection; active noise cancellation; built-in PS5 game/chat balance; carrying case; audio/mic jack; Link adapter included.
The Verge’s Sep 16 write-up correctly notes holiday / early-2027 timing and TBA pricing, but misstates Pulse magnet count as six — use the Blog’s 4 vs 8 table.
Timing and price
PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset launches in select markets starting this holiday season (2026). Pulse Edge starts in early 2027. SIE says pre-order start, exact launch dates, and price will follow — prices remain TBA as of this as-of.
As-of: evening September 16, 2026 (2026-09-16 ~5:30 PM CDT (America/Chicago)). Specs, colors, Link/Bluetooth framing, and holiday 2026 / early 2027 windows pinned to the official PlayStation Blog; The Verge used only for secondary timing corroboration (magnet-count discrepancy noted).
