Sony’s latest PlayStation 5 system software is rolling out today (September 16, 2026), and the headline change is aimed squarely at PS5 Pro owners: Enhanced PSSR Image Quality is now the default.
Per PlayStation Universe’s rundown of the official notes (and same-day VICE coverage from Brent Koepp), update 26.06-14.00.00 — which may also appear as 26.06-14.00.00.39 — automatically turns the setting on when the firmware installs. Sony’s note is clear about the upside: with the feature enabled, enhanced PSSR is used even for games that only support the previous version of PSSR, aiming for a “sharper and clearer visual experience” without waiting on per-title developer patches.
What Enhanced PSSR actually changes
This is an image-quality toggle, not a marketed frame-rate boost. VICE frames it as a way for supported titles — including older PSSR implementations — to look clearer, which can matter most in performance-leaning modes where upscaling does heavy lifting. Exact gains will still vary by game and how that title already uses PS5 Pro features.
Important limits, straight from the notes:
- PS5 Pro only — standard PS5 consoles do not get the feature
- You can turn it off under Settings → Screen and Video → Video Output → Enhance PSSR Image Quality if you hit issues
Other additions in 26.06-14.00.00
Beyond PSSR, Sony’s patch notes (as listed by PSU / VICE) also include:
- Voice-chat speaker indicator — open the voice-chat card in Control Center, then More → Display Who’s Speaking → Display Names; Position moves the on-screen indicator
- Community Activity widget in the Welcome Hub
- Trending Now: 10 multiplayer games/modes currently surging
- Top 10: 10 most popular games from the last week in your country/region
- Turn Off Bluetooth behavior tweaked in certain countries/regions — with Bluetooth off under Settings → Accessories → General → Advanced Settings, the console won’t enter Rest Mode and HDMI Device Link won’t function; Sony says the option is for esports-venue controller management and shouldn’t be used otherwise
- General system software performance and stability improvements
As-of
Firmware is described as rolling out worldwide on September 16, 2026. Availability can still stagger by account/region while the wave completes — check for the update under system software if it hasn’t landed yet.

Version string, Enhanced PSSR default behavior, Pro exclusivity, disable path, voice-chat indicator, Community Activity widget, Bluetooth note, and roll-out day verified against VICE (Koepp) and PlayStation Universe patch-note coverage citing PlayStation.
