Sucker Punch Confirms Layoffs of About 24 Staff Weeks After Ghost of Yōtei’s Complete Edition

PlayStationReport: Sucker Punch Lays Off 26 Staff Weeks After Ghost of Yōtei's Complete Edition

UPDATE (Oct. 28, 2026, 5:04 pm CT). Sucker Punch has confirmed the layoffs. Game Developer reports the studio cut 24 people, about 10% of staff — not the 26 figure in earlier reporting. Leadership said more details about the studio’s future will come next week.

Sucker Punch Productions, the Sony studio behind Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yōtei, laid off about 24 staff. The cuts were first reported by Aftermath and later confirmed by the studio, as detailed by Game Developer.

The cuts come just weeks after the studio released Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition, headlined by the new narrative expansion Echoes of Sekigahara.

What leadership told staff

An email obtained by Aftermath, said to have been sent to staff by studio leadership, tied the decision to market conditions and the studio’s plans. “After carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for our next project, we’ve decided to make some staffing reductions,” the email reads. “Several positions across Sucker Punch will be eliminated as a result.”

“We know this is a lot to take in, and we want to assure you that we did not make this decision lightly,” the message continues, adding that the studio worked to support affected colleagues during the transition. It closes: “There’s no getting around that this is a hard day. Next week we will go into more details about the future.”

Studio confirmed; more next week

Sucker Punch has confirmed the reductions. Game Developer puts the headcount at 24, an estimated total staff cut of around 10%. The email did not describe what Sucker Punch’s next project is. The studio has had a busy stretch with Ghost of Yōtei, which Alinea Analytics estimated had sold 5.4 million copies, and its follow-up expansion.
