Lyrical Animation says work has begun on an animated series based on RuneScape, in partnership with creator Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White and Jagex. Lyrical will produce it alongside White’s Meatier Productions. Jagex’s October 3 release says CEO Jon Bellamy told thousands of fans at RuneFest in Birmingham, UK, following the Old School RuneScape keynote. Variety places that stage announcement on Saturday. The project is early. Further details are set for 2027, and neither the release nor Variety names a network, a format, an episode count, or a premiere date.
The series is meant to explore bringing Gielinor to the screen. “For 25 years, our players have helped shape RuneScape’s extraordinary world, its characters and its stories,” Bellamy said in the Jagex release. “When we talk about the future of RuneScape, we don’t just mean games. We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways, both for the millions who already know and love it and for a whole new audience. It’s early days, but we’re excited to explore that potential with Charlie and the team at Lyrical Animation, and we wanted our players to be the first to know.”
Variety quotes White: “I’ve been playing RuneScape for 22 years, and it’s one of my favorite IPs ever.” In the same article he says, “I’m so excited to be working with the team on this project.”
The Jagex release says that over 25 years the franchise has expanded to include RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape Dragonwilds, with more than 300 million accounts created and more than $3 billion in lifetime revenue generated across the two games. The same release describes White as a longtime player with more than 25 million followers across his channels and platforms, content that generates approximately 145 million views each month, YouTube videos averaging 1.8 million views, and nightly livestreams averaging 15,000 concurrent viewers.
Separately, the Jagex release notes White’s other Lyrical project, Godslap, a 2D hand-drawn feature based on his comic, in production and slated for 2028. That date is for the feature, not this series.
