Saros Zenith Update Adds Boss Rush and New Game+ on PS5

PlayStation

Housemarque’s bullet-hell shooter just got a lot deeper. The Saros: Zenith update is out now on PS5, and it is free for everyone who owns the game. It went live on Monday, October 19, and it is aimed at two very different groups: players who bounced off Saros because it felt too hard, and veterans who have already seen everything Carcosa has to offer.

More ways in for newcomers

The headline accessibility option is Slow Game Speed. Instead of thinning out enemy fire, it slows the whole game down so you have more time to read attack tells and pick a response. Design lead Abebe Tinari says the team did not want to cut back the projectiles that define Saros, so this keeps every attack in place while giving you room to breathe. You can set how much the game slows and choose whether it kicks in automatically during combat or only when you toggle it.

There is also a new Auto-fire setting that shoots automatically while you aim at a hostile. Reloads stay manual, so a perfect reload still takes a well-timed press. On top of that, Zenith adds 10 new Protection Modifiers for players who want an easier, more forgiving run. One of them turns built-up Corruption into bonus melee damage.

Eclipse Layers, Overlord Rush and a golden crown

For veterans, Zenith adds 10 new Trial Modifiers, bringing the total to 25 ways to make Saros harder. They feed into a New Game+ mode called Eclipse Layers, which opens after you clear the game. Each layer is a tougher version of the campaign with altered rules, and you have to take on enough Trials before you can start. The more Trials you stack, the bigger and shinier the crown your character Arjun wears. That crown also unlocks 12 new collectible Visions spread across Carcosa.

The other big addition is Overlord Rush, a boss rush with online leaderboards. The Incursion and Ascension sets each pack three Overlords and take about 10 minutes, while Totality runs all eight Overlords back to back. You can filter the leaderboards by main weapon, so even if you will never top the global chart, you can try to be the best with your favorite gun. Housemarque says the update also brings new trophies.

The timing is good for Housemarque. On Sunday, the Golden Joysticks opened Console Game of the Year voting with Saros among the 10 nominees, on top of the game’s two other nominations in the Golden Joystick Awards 2026 shortlist. Public voting runs through Friday, October 23, and Zenith gives lapsed players a good reason to jump back in before then.
