The Winchester brothers are going their separate ways. Dynamite Entertainment’s Supernatural: Sam Winchester #1 and Supernatural: Dean Winchester #1 both arrive on Wednesday, October 7, giving each brother his first solo comic series, as CBR reports.
The two books spin out of Dynamite’s flagship Supernatural series, which wrapped earlier this year, and the split is the point. In Sam’s book, from writer Paulina Ganucheau (Disney Villains: Maleficent) and artist Kendall Goode (The Terminator: Santa Claus Is Coming to Town), the younger Winchester has done “something to his brother that he can never take back.” According to the solicitation, he then finds himself drawn toward a mysterious farmhouse in the middle of nowhere.
Sam’s story heads deep into Appalachia. Dynamite’s copy says he’s “guided by cryptic phone calls” into “a mystery as old as the mountains themselves,” and the solicits already published for the next two issues show where it’s going. Issue #2, due November 4, sends him into West Virginia with a baseball bat against “the murderous Mothman.” Issue #3, due December 16, pits him against a demon “impervious to holy water and bullets.”
Dean’s book goes south. Eisner Award-winning writer Chuck Brown (Bitter Root) and artist Rapha Lobosco (Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living) send the elder brother to New Orleans during Mardi Gras. “He’s hurt. He’s alone,” the solicitation reads, and he’s determined “to close a case his dad never could. To do so, he might have to murder a god.”
The two debuts are linked on the shelf as well as in the story. Stephen Byrne drew a cover for each issue, and the two connect into one image. Sam’s main cover is by Ganucheau and Dean’s is by Marguerite Sauvage, with variants by Mirka Andolfo and Keyla Valerio, two photo covers, and a blank cover for each, all at $4.99.
It’s a busy stretch for Dynamite’s licensed horror and genre books. The publisher also just reset its Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly launches, as RCG reported: Buffy and Angel comics return March 2027, Firefly in April.
