Valor Mortis Launch Trailer Lands as New Game+ Is Confirmed

Xbox

Valor Mortis launches next week, and publisher Lyrical Games has released its launch trailer. The first-person soulslike from One More Level, the studio behind Ghostrunner, launches on Tuesday, October 13, at 10 a.m. Pacific / 1 p.m. Eastern on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam. It will also be on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Lyrical also used the trailer’s release on Friday, October 9, to announce what comes after launch. A New Game+ mode is coming in Q4 of this year. It lets players run through the game a second time with new challenges and tougher enemies while keeping their loot and character progress.

The standard game costs $39.99. A $59.99 Deluxe Edition includes a major story DLC launching next year, plus several cosmetic packs that will release before then. According to Lyrical’s announcement, several free updates are also planned for the weeks and months after launch.

On Steam, Valor Mortis will be part of new bundles. Buying it alongside Dishonored, No Rest for the Wicked, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, Ghostrunner or Ghostrunner 2 knocks 10% off both games, and players who already own one of those can complete the bundle at the same discount.

The launch trailer focuses on the game’s story. Valor Mortis is set across occupied Eastern Europe, where Napoleon’s campaign has turned into something unnatural. You play as William Dowsett, voiced by James Alexander, a resurrected soldier of the Grande Armée who fights plague-twisted enemies with Napoleonic-era weapons and “Transmutations,” supernatural powers he uses with his left hand. Vincent Cassel plays Napoleon, and Jennifer English plays The Shrike, a key figure in the resistance. Lyrical released behind-the-scenes interviews with both actors earlier in the week.

The game mixes stamina-based soulslike combat, including parries, dashes and finishers, with Metroidvania-style exploration. Its score was co-composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski, known for Silent Hill 2 Remake, with in-house composer Oskar Bała.
