The team behind Paper Girls is back. Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang are reuniting for Roam, a new ongoing series from Image Comics, and the first issue arrives in comic shops on Wednesday, February 24, 2027.
The book was first revealed by IGN ahead of the pair’s Spotlight panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday. Roam is their first new ongoing series together in more than a decade. Paper Girls, their Eisner Award-winning series about four newspaper delivery girls caught in a time war, debuted in 2015.
This time, the pair are taking on superheroes, with a twist. Here is the official pitch:
“In the future, everyone gets to be a superhero… but only while you’re young.”
Image describes the series as a story about “the power and peril that comes with new adulthood,” and a “timeless adventure about the quest we each take in life to finally find our team.”
A 50-page first issue
Roam #1 is an extra-length 50-page issue, and it will come with two covers by Chiang, according to The Beat. It will also be available digitally. The rest of the Paper Girls team is back as well, with Matt Wilson on colors and Jared Fletcher on letters.
Vaughan, who also writes Saga, said the book is well underway. “Cliff has already drawn the first several issues of ROAM, and I can’t wait for readers to see this breathtakingly original world he and our gifted collaborators Matt and Jared helped create,” he told IGN.
Chiang, whose recent work includes Catwoman: Lonely City, said Roam is something new for both of them. “ROAM is unlike anything Brian and I have done before, but inspired by our love for comics as a medium,” he said. “It’s been a joy to reunite with our trusted teammates Matt Wilson and Jared Fletcher, and I’m incredibly grateful to Image Comics for continuing the creative partnership and exploration that began with Paper Girls. It’s going to be a wild ride!”
AIPT has more from the announcement. Roam is one of the biggest creator-owned launches out of NYCC this year.
Image has been on a strong run with new launches. RCG also covered Crimes Against Nature #1, the neo-noir that went back for a second printing.
