Dungeon Crawler Carl is coming to comic shops every month. Vault Comics and author Matt Dinniman have announced an ongoing Dungeon Crawler Carl comic series that starts in January 2027 and will serialize the hit Webtoon adaptation in print.

The Webtoon is written by Dinniman and Tevagah, with art by Laurel Pursuit Studios and Kuzomari. For the comic, Vault says the art is being scaled up to fit the printed page. Dungeon Crawler Carl #1 is a double-sized 48-page issue that combines Episodes 1 and 2 of the Webtoon, which Vault notes is “a lot more story than issue #0.” After that, new issues will arrive on a monthly schedule.

“Entering the comic space is nothing short of amazing,” Dinniman said. “The fact that I get to work with some of the greatest creators and artists working today feels like a dream.”

Nathan Gooden, known for Barbaric, will draw the main covers. The variant lineup is stacked: Ryan Ottley, Brett Bean, Frank Cho, Clayton Crain, Yoshi Yoshitani, Katie Cook, Riley Rossmo, Tyler Walpole, Doug Mahnke, Trish Forstner, Todd Beats, Tony Moy and Luciano Fleitas, the artist behind the Dungeon Crawler Carl novel covers. Vault says more cover artists will be announced in the coming weeks and months.

If you have not met Carl yet, the setup is simple and very funny. Coast Guard veteran Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, are trying to survive the end of the world inside a trap-filled, video game-like fantasy dungeon that is actually the set of an alien reality show watched across the galaxy. Vault’s solicit sums it up: “You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Getting stuck on a sadistic alien game show with her cat!”

Dinniman’s LitRPG novel series is a No. 1 New York Times bestseller with more than 19 million copies sold, and a TV series is in the works at Peacock. The move to print is another sign of how much Webtoon stories are crossing into comic shops, following projects like DC’s Gotham by Daylight. Fans who want Carl and Donut on paper can look for #1 in January.
