Only days into WARDOGS Season 2, Bulkhead is already rethinking its plans. In a statement posted on the game’s official X account on Saturday morning, the studio said its decision to speed up progression this season “was the wrong call,” and that it will bring Season 3 forward rather than make a rushed change this weekend.
What Bulkhead said
The studio told players it would not make a knee-jerk reset over the weekend. Instead, it is “significantly bringing forward Season 3,” with more details promised in next week’s developer vlog. Bulkhead did not give a new date for the next season.
The progression speed-up was one of the headline changes when Season 2 arrived with rain, new tanks and a celebration of more than 3 million sales, which RCG covered in WARDOGS Season 2 Brings Rain, Tanks and 3M Sales. Faster leveling sounds like a gift on paper, but in a game built around long-term gear and faction progress, plenty of players felt it cheapened the grind and flattened the season.
The team bonus is already gone
This is the second quick reversal in as many days. On October 16, CEO Joe Brammer posted a video admitting, “We were wrong,” and Bulkhead removed the bonus for the Blue faction, also called Lonestar. As PC Gamer reported, that bonus gave players who joined the side a 5% boost to cash and a 2.5% boost to XP, which many felt was unfairly tipping the balance of the faction war. The new Bakurani spawns added in Season 2 are staying.
Fast course corrections are becoming a pattern for Bulkhead, and so far players seem to prefer that to a studio that digs in. The real test will be what Season 3 looks like and how soon it can arrive. Bulkhead is expected to explain more in next week’s dev vlog, including how it plans to handle progression from here.
WARDOGS is available now on PC.
