CD Projekt Red‘s free The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered update unlocks on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. ET. That works out to 5:00 a.m. CT and 3:00 a.m. PT, per the time-zone table from VGC and PC Gamer.
The Remastered pass is a free update for existing owners, so most players will not buy anything new. They just need room on their drive. CDPR’s Marcin Momot shared the approximate sizes, as reported by both outlets:
- PC (Steam): about 45GB
- PlayStation 5: about 45GB
- Xbox: about 45GB
- Nintendo Switch 2: about 50GB
The Switch 2 version is sold as a separate eShop product rather than a patch to the original Switch release. CDPR says owners of The Witcher 3 on the original Switch get a free upgrade to the Switch 2 version, so nobody who already bought it on Nintendo hardware has to pay again.
PC Gamer notes there is no preload on most platforms, since this is an update to an existing install. The download starts when the update goes live, so players with slower connections should expect a wait on Tuesday morning. Storefront timing can vary by a few minutes from platform to platform.
Why it matters: The Witcher 3 remains one of the best-selling RPGs in the US more than a decade after launch, and this is the biggest free modernization CDPR has given it. It also keeps the series visible while the studio’s next Witcher game ramps up. For how that pipeline shows up in CDPR’s spending, see our report on CDPR’s first-half spending as the Witcher pipeline scales.
What we are not saying: the sizes above are approximate figures from CDPR via Momot; we are not quoting exact byte counts, and final downloads may differ slightly by platform and region. We are also not listing a full patch-note breakdown until CDPR publishes it.
