IO Interactive just pushed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light again — this time into March 2027, with the exact day still TBA. That is a long slip from the earlier Q3 / summer 2026 window, and nearly a year after the game already launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
In a September 15, 2026 statement (posted via the official 007 First Light / IO Interactive social channels and quoted across Kotaku, Gematsu, and My Nintendo News), the studio said the extra runway is about Switch 2 performance polish, not a soft cancellation:
“To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.”
IO also nodded to Gamescom feedback — calling the response “positive” and “a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch” — and noted the same demo is playable at Tokyo Game Show the week of the announcement.
How we got here
Timeline, as reported from IO’s own updates and primary coverage as of September 15, 2026:
- May 27, 2026 — 007 First Light launched on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam / Epic). Switch 2 was originally framed as a same-day / day-and-date partner platform and did not make that window.
- Earlier 2026 — After missing the multiplatform launch, IO pointed Switch 2 toward a summer / late-summer / Q3 2026 ship. Kotaku’s September 15 report also resurfaces CEO Hakan Abrak’s earlier line that the port was running on Switch 2 but needed more time: “I don’t want to hear it wasn’t a good version.”
- September 15, 2026 — New public update: Switch 2 moves to March 2027, exact date later.
Hands-on chatter out of Gamescom was generally upbeat on the demo build, though some coverage (including Kotaku) flagged open questions about denser crowd scenes and heavier levels on Nintendo’s hardware — the kind of performance worry that matches IO’s “more polish” framing.
What Switch 2 players should take away
This is a Switch 2–only date change in the September 15 statement. Other platforms already have the game. Amazon Games’ publishing role and any sequel talk are separate from this delay; the actionable news for Nintendo owners is the new March 2027 target and IO’s promise to communicate a firm day later.
As of writing (September 15, 2026), no day-within-March has been published. Prefer IO’s statement (via Kotaku / Gematsu quotes of the full post) over rumor chains for the window.
