Amazing Spider-Man #1000 Hits Shelves Early for Local Comic Shop Day 2026

ComicsFans line up outside an indie comic shop on a sunny morning as a red-and-blue masked hero swings overhead on webs, with a glowing comic book bursting with confetti and a shadowy red-eyed villain looming over the rooftops.

If you want Amazing Spider-Man #1000 before Wednesday, today is your shot. Local Comic Shop Day 2026 is Saturday, September 26, and participating stores can sell Marvel’s milestone issue four days ahead of its September 30 release, thanks to a Skan Srisuwan variant cover that kept its event date after the rest of the issue slipped.

How Spider-Man got here early

Amazing Spider-Man #1000 was originally due September 16. A printer problem pushed it back two weeks to September 30, but the Skan Local Comic Shop Day variant stayed put. As Bleeding Cool put it this morning, that means participating shops are suddenly selling the anniversary issue today, ahead of every other cover and the digital release. That includes stores outside the US: Bleeding Cool’s Rich Johnston was headed to Forbidden Planet in the UK to grab his.

Penguin Random House Comics, which distributes Marvel to comic shops, lists the Skan LCSD variant at $9.99 US ($12.50 CAN), the same cover price as the rest of the 104-page issue. Bleeding Cool has also reported a separate Skan spot color variant going straight to ComicsPRO member stores instead of through Penguin Random House.

The book is a big one. Joe Kelly and Pepe Larraz’s lead story introduces a new villain, Ravage, and the anniversary lineup includes Noah Hawley’s comic book debut with Patrick Gleason, Frank Miller and Peach Momoko’s first collaboration, and Stuart Immonen and Brian Michael Bendis back on Spider-Man together. RCG has a preview of Hawley’s story, and the issue topped 400,000 orders and went back for a second printing before it ever reached shelves.

One caveat: not every comic shop takes part in Local Comic Shop Day, and each participating store sets its own stock. Call ahead before you make the trip.

What Local Comic Shop Day is

Local Comic Shop Day is run by ComicsPRO, the trade group for comic book retailers, and now lands permanently on the last Saturday in September. Bleeding Cool says more than 280 stores are taking part, with signings, sketches, kids’ activities and more. The store locator at LocalComicShopDay.com lists shops in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland and Australia.

The rest of the LCSD lineup

Spider-Man is the headliner, but Bleeding Cool’s rundown of this year’s exclusives and early releases runs deep.

Ignition Press has Mad Science Division: The Cold Open, an exclusive first chapter from Dan Watters and Brian Level. Oni Press has a Travis Charest foil full-art virgin variant of Archie #1, the new series from Ben H. Winters and Fábio Moon. DC is offering LCSD editions of the Watchmen Deluxe and V for Vendetta hardcovers, each with a US-only digital movie code, plus facsimile #1 LCSD variants in standard and foil.

Vault’s Dungeon Crawler Carl Vol. 2 arrives ten days early. IDW has an Elizabeth Beals variant of Christopher Cantwell and Dennis Menheere’s Star Trek #1, which puts Captain Seven of Nine in the captain’s chair of the Enterprise-G. Image has an Annie Wu foil cover for Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer #1, and Dark Horse has a Gabriel Hernández Walta variant of Tom King’s Six of Us #1.

Smaller publishers are in the mix too: Pesto’s Snip #1 gets an advance edition with a Riccardo Faccini cover, Source Point Press has a signed-lithograph edition of RSVP: E.S.P. limited to 200 copies, and Z2 has Hello, I’m Johnny Cash.

Participating stores are also being sent free copies of Meg Cabot’s Detective Baby and Hope Larson’s Very Bad at Math, plus a Lightfall art print by Tim Probert. Bleeding Cool notes that many shops are running their own promotions on top of the exclusives, and quantities on the hottest items are limited, so first come, first served applies.

That’s the real pitch of the day: a thousand issues of Spider-Man and a reason to walk into your local shop, not a checkout page.
