The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is drawing more Steam players now than at any point in its 11-year history. On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the game hit a new all-time Steam peak of 137,724 concurrent players, according to SteamPeaks and SteamDB data cited by Eurogamer and GamesRadar.
That beats the record the game set only days earlier. After CD Projekt Red released the free Witcher 3 Remastered upgrade on September 29, the RPG passed 120,000 concurrent players within hours. Before that, its best Steam numbers were about 92,000 at launch in 2015 and 103,329 in January 2020, when Netflix’s The Witcher series drove a wave of new players.
Steam counts only PC players, so total player numbers across consoles are higher. CD Projekt hasn’t released official cross-platform totals, but Eurogamer quotes Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott, who estimated 2.4 million daily active users across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on September 30. Elliott also estimated that the game sold about 130,000 more copies that day and that lifetime sales are now above 66 million. Those are third-party analyst estimates, not CD Projekt figures.
The studio is enjoying the moment. GamesRadar points to a post from Paweł Sasko, associate game director on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, thanking players: “There is plenty of you on the path this weekend, my dears witchers. Much love and gratitude for playing our games.”
The Remastered upgrade overhauls the 2015 game’s visuals and textures, improves animations, and reworks skills and the skill tree. It is free for existing owners. It has also had some launch problems: CD Projekt is rolling out hotfixes for divisive lighting changes and other issues. The Songs of the Past expansion is still planned for next year.
If you missed launch week, RCG’s Witcher 3 Remastered launch-time guide has the September 29 rollout details. A free upgrade that sets an all-time player record more than a decade after release is unusual for any single-player RPG.
The headline number remains the Steam concurrent peak: 137,724 on October 4, after Remastered first pushed the game past 120,000 in the days after September 29.
