Mafia III turned 10 this week, and 2K marked the occasion with a surprise. As of Thursday, October 8, Mafia III: Definitive Edition is available natively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with 60 frames-per-second gameplay and other technical improvements, according to the official Mafia site.
If you already own the game on PS4 or Xbox One, the current-gen version is a free upgrade. 2K also says anyone who owns Mafia: The Omertà Collection on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S now has access to their platform’s version of Mafia III. For a limited time, the Definitive Edition is also 80% off.
PC players get attention too. A new Steam update adds a long list of fixes. 2K says it addressed spots where players got stuck in missions such as “Get Enzo Conti,” “Kill Tommy Marcano,” and the Epilogue, and fixed crashes when driving into the Wharf or shooting a gas canister during “Destroy Boosted Car Shipment.” The patch also fixes achievement tracking, cleans up companion behavior for characters like Alcee and Father James, repairs flickering lighting, and fixes a bug that could leave the game stuck in slow motion.
The Definitive Edition includes the main game, all three story DLCs (Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times), and the Family Kick-Back and Judge, Jury and Executioner bonus packs. Mafia III first launched on October 7, 2016, following Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay on a revenge war against the Italian mob in New Bordeaux, a fictional take on 1968 New Orleans.
The update is part of what 2K calls its ongoing effort to bring Mafia: The Omertà Collection to current-gen hardware. The four-game collection also includes Mafia II: Definitive Edition and the rest of the series.
Older games getting current-gen tune-ups has been a theme this fall. RCG also covered how Witcher 3 Remastered’s next patch targets PS5 performance.
