PlayStationGhost of Tsushima: Legends Anime Delayed to 2028 as Crunchyroll Names Two Cast Members

The Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime will take a year longer than planned. Crunchyroll said at its New York Comic Con showcase on Thursday, Oct. 8, that the series is now “set to arrive in 2028,” and it named two cast members in the same announcement.

The anime was originally announced in January 2025 during Sony’s CES press conference in Las Vegas, where Crunchyroll said it would “premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.” Crunchyroll’s NYCC release does not give a reason for the move, and it does not narrow 2028 to a season or a date. Crunchyroll will still be the show’s exclusive streaming home.

Who is making it

According to Crunchyroll’s showcase announcement, the series is “currently in production by HAYATE in collaboration with PlayStation Productions.” HAYATE’s own news post repeats that it is producing the show with PlayStation Productions and calls the anime “currently in active production.” The original 2025 announcement put animation at Kamikaze Douga, with Aniplex collaborating and Sony Music as the music and soundtrack partner.

Director Takanobu Mizuno leads the team, with Gen Urobuchi of Nitroplus handling series composition and scripts and Satoshi Maejima of Nitroplus as a scriptwriter. Takashi Okazaki is the character designer. The new staff named at NYCC are composer Keiji Inai, sound director Yoshikazu Iwanami, sound effects artist Yasumasa Koyama and title calligraphy artist Gyousyou Suzuki.

The two new cast members are Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu. Their roles have not been revealed. Gematsu notes that Saco voiced Tomoe in the original game.

Based on the co-op mode

The series adapts Legends, the online multiplayer mode of Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima, which the original announcement described as a cooperative experience “inspired by Japanese folktales and mythology.” At the showcase, Crunchyroll gave attendees a look at a work-in-progress trailer.

The same showcase opened with a world premiere clip of Sekiro: No Defeat, a hand-drawn adaptation of FromSoftware’s game that Crunchyroll says will stream exclusively on the service as an eight-episode series beginning January 2027.

Ghost of Tsushima fans looking for something to play in the meantime can check out Ghost of Yōtei’s Most Wanted DLC, which brought Jin Sakai back as a playable character.
