The Martian underground opens in December. META Publishing and developer Pokuch say co-op survival game Blind Descent will launch in Early Access on PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG on December 2, Gematsu reports.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will follow alongside the full release. No date has been given for that yet. For now, the Early Access build covers PC only, spread across three storefronts so players can pick where to buy.
A rescue mission that turns into survival
Blind Descent sends a team of up to four pioneers deep beneath the surface of Mars to find out what happened to a missing crew. What was supposed to be a routine expedition turns into a fight to stay alive in a huge, uncharted underground world.
“What was supposed to be a routine expedition has become a fight for human survival,” META Publishing’s overview says. “It is no longer just a mission, it’s a transformation.” That framing suggests a game where the planet changes the crew as much as the crew changes the planet.
The hook is that the caves are not just a backdrop. META Publishing describes the subterranean world as a living, reactive ecosystem, and the mission shifts from rescue to something closer to transformation as players learn how to adapt to it and thrive.
With support for up to four players, Blind Descent is built around a squad working together to survive what it finds below. The new release date trailer is out now, and the Steam page is live for wishlists now.
Early Access has become the default launch path for co-op survival games, letting studios tune systems with a live player base before the console versions land. For another game taking that route this fall, see RCG’s look at Moonfrost’s Steam Early Access launch.
If December looks quiet for your group, Blind Descent is one to put on the calendar. Just bring friends, because four headlamps beat one in a cave nobody has mapped.
