Control Resonant has sold more than one million copies worldwide, Remedy Entertainment announced Thursday. In its announcement, the Finnish studio says worldwide sales “have today exceeded 1 million copies, making it the fastest-selling Remedy game in the company’s 31-year history.”
The game launched September 24 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, so the milestone arrived about three weeks after release. The physical edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S also went on sale Thursday. Remedy thanked players on social media “for playing, sharing, and being a part of the community.”
A first for Remedy as a self-publisher
Remedy’s Chief Executive Officer, Jean-Charles Gaudechon, framed the number around the studio’s new publishing role. “One million copies is a very strong start. CONTROL Resonant is Remedy’s first self-published release of this scale, launched into one of the most competitive windows in years alongside the industry’s biggest names,” he said. “The game is unmistakably Remedy, with the bold ideas and distinctive style our players have come to expect from us.”
He also pointed to the series’ reach. “We have always believed Control deserved an even bigger audience, and this launch shows what’s possible: we see the game connecting with long-time fans while bringing a significant number of new players into the world of Control, which strengthens its long-term potential,” Gaudechon said. “With Control and Alan Wake, we now have two established franchises. Our focus is to build on what makes them special, support them, and grow them even further. There is a lot more to come from these worlds.”
Faster than Alan Wake 2
The previous pace-setter was Alan Wake 2. PC Gamer notes that the 2023 horror sequel took two months to reach a million copies and needed more than a year, and two million copies sold, before it started making money for Remedy. Profit has been the focus since Gaudechon became chief executive officer in February, and Remedy has not yet said what Control Resonant’s sales mean for its bottom line. The company is due to share more in its third-quarter business review on November 3.
Remedy is still adding to the game after launch. As RCG reported in September, the studio’s roadmap puts New Game Plus Plus in October and Photo Mode in November.
