Saving a magical kingdom at 12 was the easy part. Long Ago & Far Away 2: Son of Elvenwood (Part 1), the sequel to White Cat Entertainment’s fantasy comedy, arrives in comic shops on Wednesday, December 9, and it hands its hero a much messier problem: a grown son he did not know he had. AIPT has the first details.
A family reunion gone wrong
Writer Chris Mancini and artist Fernando Pinto return, with Pinto also handling covers and Troy Peteri lettering. The story picks up five years after the first book. Jason, who once became a legend in Elvenwood as a kid, discovers an unexpected result of his past adventures with the Witch Queen: he is a father. Thanks to the strange way time moves in Elvenwood, his son, Lord Stone, is roughly 20 years older than Jason himself.
Lord Stone is not thrilled about being abandoned, and his anger has led him to bring the northern Necromancers down on Elvenwood. That leaves Jason juggling an impending catastrophe and a family reunion that is off to a terrible start.
Growing up, one book at a time
Mancini says the series is built to follow different stages of life. “Volume 1 deals with the end of childhood, and Volume 2 deals with moving forward and starting a family of your own,” he said. “Of course, that gets complicated when there’s a horde of bloodthirsty Necromancers on your tail. So expect bigger, more sweeping conflicts, more personal stakes, and a bit more (sort of) maturity.”
Pinto is promising a wilder ride. “Becoming a functioning adult is never easy, especially when you have a whole kingdom depending on you… Again!” he said. “If you thought you knew what Long Ago and Far Away had to offer, strap in because now we get crazier, funnier, scarier, and zombier (Is that a word?) this time around.”
Retailers can place initial orders starting October 22, and the final order cutoff is November 2, so readers who want a copy should tell their shop soon. For more genre sequels and revivals in comics this season, see how The Last Starfighter: Beta #1 reveals the android’s fate.
